Going for it! Climbing, for most people is more of a mental game rather than a physical. Often, movement is inhibited by emotions of fear and stress that comes with decision making. However, Mike wasn't shy to find out if he will make it or not in the most committing way – going for the dynamic throw. Yes! He stuck it. We learned, going for it is at least half the success well done!
We had so much fun teaching our advanced anchor class last week. In this picture Brad set up a toprope on a bolted anchor. Since the bolts were so far back – away from the edge – our best solution was to use a static rope long enough to bring the masterpoint low and over the edge. Static ropes anywhere from 9mm-11mm are great for this application where a long extension is needed to position the masterpoint low in order to avoid extensive wear on your rope. Once we had the static rope clipped to the bolts we also used a friction on one anchor leg to safely approach the edge and tie the masterpoint in the direction of pull… all that resulted in a nice equalized anchor with a clean running top rope So much fun to teach these little details that go such a long way in everyones climbing careers. Cheers and stay safe on the rocks.
