Hello! I’m Kyle Heavey, and I’m thrilled to be your partner on the rock. As an AMGA Certified Apprentice Rock Guide and lifelong climber, I’ve dedicated myself to the craft of vertical movement and, more importantly, to the highest standards of safety and instruction.

The AMGA (American Mountain Guides Association) certification means I’ve completed rigorous training and assessment, equipping me with the technical skill and judgment to manage risk and provide a world-class experience in complex terrain.

My journey on the rock started 16 years ago in the driveway of a childhood friend and mentor, who explained Rock Climbing to me using his 2002 Toyota 4Runner—describing climbing holds and their qualities. I was hooked, although at the time, I had too many other things happening in my life, such as puberty, and my lack of focus proved difficult in pursuing the sport, as well as the lack of a mentor to show me the path. I bouldered at the local-ish gym and first climbed on rock at the infamous Stoney Point, where legendary climbers such as Royal Robbins Bob Kamps, Yvon Chouinard, and John Long got their start. I was overwhelmed and underprepared, which led me down a long and consistent path of casual gym climbing, learning outdoor climbing, and later becoming a passionate climbing guide. Today, I bring that deep, practical experience to every client I guide.

My Guiding Philosophy

I believe guiding is about more than just getting you to the top; it’s about empowerment. I strive to create a patient, encouraging, and confidence-building environment, whether you’re taking your first outdoor lead, learning complex self-rescue skills, or simply enjoying the flow of a multi-pitch classic.

My focus is always on:

  • Safety First: Applying professional, modern risk management techniques in every situation.

  • Skill Transfer: Teaching you the “why” behind every knot, anchor, and technique.

  • The Experience: Ensuring you connect with the natural environment and have a truly memorable day out.

Ready to learn, challenge yourself, and ascend new heights? Let’s plan your next vertical adventure!
